Rarely are we able to fully thank or acknowledge the time and effort of our volunteers…

In 2007 The Arabian Horse Society of Australia introduced a new award, The Distinguished Service Award. This award is designed to acknowledge the dept owed by all of us to the unsung heroes of our Arabian breed, usually in an Affiliate or in their own area of equine interest. These people may not always do the glamorous jobs, but they are committed, usually for periods of ten to twenty years, often more. They are the dedicated volunteers without whom we would have no events.

In Western Australia, we are very proud to have one of our own become one of the inaugural winners of The Distinguished Service Awards.

Mrs Sheila Weigall has been part of the West Australian Arabian Horse Association on & off since the mid-80s, including stints as secretary and treasurer, a position she holds at the present time. In 1992 Sheila was made a Life Member of WAAHA(Inc.) in recognition of her long time dedication. Sheila was co-organiser of the first Night of Stars in 1992, which started as a stallion parade and has since become an Evening of Entertainment, embracing all aspects of the equestrian world. It is a major fund-raising event for WAAHA.

In 1994 Sheila was the first in WA to pass her examination and become a AHSA panel judge where she rose to the National Level. As a representative of WAAHA, Sheila has a good working relationship with the EFA-WA branch. She was a committee member of the United Horse Breeders Association, which conducted WA’s largest three day breed show outside of the Perth Royal Show, from the mid-1990’s and was president & treasurer in 1999 / 2000.

Sheila has been a very successful breeder of Purebred & Derivative Arabians, under her Hillain Stud prefix from the 1970’s to 2004 when the stud was wound down.

The current WAAHA committee would like to sincerely congratulate Sheila on her award and thank her for her years of successfully promoting our West Australian Arabians.

After getting my first taste for the Arabian horse at the age of 12yrs when I was bought a derivative pony by the name of Leisurelands Dilkari I was hooked and then it was always my dream to own an Arabian Show Horse

I have had a few horses over the years and all have left a hoof print in my heart forever. I have had some great Arabian Ponies and have watched the ponies that I have bred bring their owners much success and joy to name a few there has been Nadalla Park Sinatra – a multi supreme winner with owners Coralie & M’liss Barry, NP Casanova – an East Coast & Australian Champion, NP Springbok also an Australian Champion in hand and NP I’m So Special a multi champion in QLD, these  horses are just the highlights to my breeding program of Arabian Riding Ponies I bred a couple of others that have also had great success with their owners.

In 2006 I tried my hand at breeding a Purebred from my very successful and special mare Yzner Tantrums & Tiaras (now owned by Rod Payne) and the result a gorgeous filly Nadalla Park Makmiadiva, Diva was Junior Champion Filly at the 2007 Perth Royal and has started the 2008 show season off with a win in her yearling filly class backed up with Reserve Champion Junior Filly which I had the pleasure of showing her to as her owner and usual handler Taryn & Melanie Bray of Lanaryn Arabians were both injured.

I have now cut down my numbers and just show the one Purebred Arabian and a couple of welsh mountain ponies, which keeps me more then occupied with full time work also. And I am enjoying having the time with my best friend Arabian gelding “Magnate”, he is my world, I have had a dream run with him which as accumulated in multiple Supreme champion awards at both ‘A’ class Arabian shows under international judges and local breed shows where he has even been awarded Supreme of Supreme All Breeds. He has won the Kadova Favory trophy twice as well as winning Champion Gelding at the Perth Royal for an amazing 5 times, he has won State Champion gelding 5 times also, twice I have taken him to Sydney to compete at the East Coast and Australian National Championships where both times at the Aussie Champs he was awarded Reserve National Champion Gelding.

This year I started taking him on a few bush rides and entered him in a couple of ridden classes at the All Arabian a few weeks before I was talking to my friend Kristina and saying that I had decided not to do the ridden as I couldn’t be bothered getting all dressed up, and she put her hand up to ride him for me, so she came out and had a couple of rides with her 3rd ride being at the All Arabian were he was awarded the title of ‘Ultimate Arabian” …I am so proud of my what my boy has achieved but also proud of what a wonderful representative Magnate is for the Arabian breed.

Thank you to all the Arabians pure and derivative that have had a hoof in making my dreams a reality.

See you all out and about at the shows this year.

Cheers Kylie Bennett.     (Nadalla Park Arabians)
